Agency Overview

History
ECDB is a community-based non-profit corporation that serves the residents of northern New Jersey. In 1975, local neighborhood leaders who were concerned with the community’s living environment established the agency with the intention to improve the quality of life of their neighborhood and expand access to services to all in the city of Newark. El Club del Barrio, Inc. [ECDB] of today has inherited the belief that strong families make strong communities; thus, our duty is to help families who are underserved, or lack access to supportive services, become self-sufficient so that together we can help rebuild our neighborhood. Newark residents continue to look to the agency as a traditional community based social service provider and safe haven for all people.

Mission
ECDB’s mission to is to provide quality, science-based, client-centered social and behavioral healthcare services that prevent disease and improve the quality of life for individuals and families in these communities.

Population Served
ECDB serves families with children, young adults, women, men, seniors, HIV+/AIDS affected individuals along with their heterosexual and same-sex partners, and persons with disabilities. ECDB hopes to catalyze progressive sustainable changes in the quality of life of Newark’s families and their children.
